Fall Foods You Can Share With Your Dog
Admin2025-09-08T18:09:46+00:00Fall season is here! With that comes lots of cozy dog cuddles and warm foods. There are lots of fall foods you can share with your dog, here are just a few:
1. Pumpkin
Pumpkin is a great fall food for your dog. It’s high in fiber and contains a tons of essential nutrients such as Vitamin C, K, copper, and magnesium. All of these are super important for your dog’s health. The fiber content is great for your dog’s digestive tract – it can help with either diarrhea or constipation, depending on what you need.
2. Apples
Apples are another great source of fiber and essential nutrients – full of Vitamin A, C, and antioxidants. One important compound found in apples is fisetin; a naturally occurring phytochemical that has been shown in research to be a really important longevity food. What do we mean by that? Fisetin has been shown to help kill old diseased cells (that often mutate into cancer and other diseases), reduced inflammation, and help keep the body’s supply of glutathione active. Glutathione is the antioxidant that fights diseases in your dog’s body – the more of this they have, the healthier they will be. Feed apples with the skin on, but remove the seeds, stem, and core.
3. Turkey
We are all for fresh protein sources for your dog. Protein should be the main portion of their food; dogs don’t need starchy carbs. The best way to feed your dog turkey? No, it’s not the cooked kind. Feed raw, ground turkey (ideally with turkey bone and organs ground in), turkey necks, etc, or lightly cooked ground turkey. Don’t add any seasonings or salt.
4. Cranberries
Cranberries have a ton of nutrients and vitamins that are essential for your dog’s health. They are full of Vitamin C, E, and K, and contain manganese – all of which are important for maintaining a healthy immune system and metabolism. They also contain anthocyanins and quercetin, antioxidant powerhouses that help to remove free radical damage in the body and prevent age-related diseases such as cancer. A bonus? They are full of fiber which is great for digestive health.
5. Carrots
Carrots are a great source of fiber for gut health and a source of Vitamin A which helps maintain a healthy eyesight. They also can act as a natural dewormer for your dog, helping to remove parasites from the intestinal tract. The fiber in carrots also acts as a prebiotic as a bonus.
However, carrots can be a choking hazard so always cut them up into small bites and lightly steam them before feeding – raw carrots aren’t as easily digested and release less of the important compound beta-carotene than when cooked.
